She got to Chris’ room and without knocking, she pushed the door open. Chris was trying to force a kiss on Mansa, but from where Mrs Bernard stood, with Mansa backing her, it looked like she was the one going for the kiss. Because Chris had the advantage of seeing his mother enter the room, he quickly pushed Mansa away and turned the situation around. “Stop forcing yourself on me, What’s all this nonsense?” Chris shouted at Mansa. He was all the while pretending not to have seen his mother at the door. “What’s going on here? Mrs Bernard asked. “Mother, its good you are here. I don’t know what has come over Mansa, she is all over me!” Chris lied. His mother was never opened minded, especially not when it came to Mansa. Besides, not only did she trust Chris, he also doubled as her favourite son.“Oh! So this is your plan to destroy this family, right? Now tell me, who does this belong to?” Mrs Bernard asked Mansa, holding up the pregnancy test kit. Mansa was frightened by the look on Mrs Bernard’s face. She was in dilemma… Was this the right moment to tell her about the rape incident? She will definitely not believe her, taking into consideration what had just happened. Chris was accusing her of was forcing herself on him and now the pregnancy test kit was another issue she has to clear. This was going to be a difficult one for her. She needed help. She quickly prayed under her breath for God to come to her aid. She stood there as words failed her. Words became too heavy for her to say. Silence was the only option. Mrs Bernard drew closer to her and asked again “Who does this kit belong to? Mansa, are you pregnant? She asked. Mansa stood there still silent. Tears began running down her cheeks. Mrs Bernard was very fast with her hands. Before Mansa knew it, a heavy slap had landed on her face. One that even got Chris sympathising with her. Mrs Bernard then gave the kit to her to go and check right away. She wanted to be sure of Mansa’s pregnancy status since she was not answering her. Mrs Bernard even followed her to the bathroom, staying behind the door to ensure that she took the test. After a few minutes, Mansa came out of the washroom looking downcast. As soon as she stepped out, Mrs Bernard snatched the used kit from her. There were two red lines on the test kit. Mansa was indeed pregnant “Mansa, you are pregnant!” Mrs Bernard screamed. “Mum, I can explain, I… ” Mansa said but was interrupted. “I am not your mother! How many times do I have to tell you that?! Look, you better tell me who is responsible for that thing in your womb” Mrs Bernard cautioned her. Meanwhile, Chris was also anxiously waiting for them in the living room. His mother has asked him to step out just before she asked Mansa to go take the pregnancy test. All of a sudden, Alice came in crying. “Hey! What are you doing here? Why don’t you have the courtesy to call before coming over?” Chris asked. “How could you, Chris? How could you?! You are the only guy I have ever known… How could you? Alice said in tears. Chris had no idea what she was talking about. “What are you talking about Alice?” Chris asked anxiously. He didn’t want his mum to come meet Alice in this state, certainly not with the ongoing drama with Mansa. Alice handed a paper to him. “What is this?” Chris asked. “Can’t you see for yourself, Chris?! That’s the result of a test I did at the hospital. Chris, I am HIV positive!!” She said and started sobbing again. “What?!! What do you mean? No, this has to be is a joke” Chris asked.
